Mistaking her warmth for love,
He wrapped his arms around her fiery limbs,
Burning with what he confused for passion
Being blinded by the ash of his heart burned alive,
Breathed her in, filled his lungs with smoke and the fumes of dying soul
Extinguishing the hopes of others
And choked too late trying to kiss her
Finding himself consumed, dried of life,
brittle crackling shell now aflame with misplaced hurt
Kindling only a greater hunger
A loveless devouring
